Kappa Delta
Kappa Delta, "KD", is the established sorority of southern belles. If you're not from a southern state, your chances of receiving a Kappa Delta bid are slim. In order for KD to take you seriously, you’re going to need stellar recommendations and connections. If you don't have those, you should be distinctively attractive and refined. To be a Kappa Delta is to possess perfection, whether it is physical perfection, academic perfection or financial perfection. They are exceedingly strict, and that is necessary in order to stay top tier, but it is certainly valuable to be a member of possibly the best sorority on campus. They have smaller pledge classes, which is certainly by choice. Although it’s important to have numbers in your chapter, it’s also important to not have driftwood. Kappa Delta strives to bid the crème de la crème from the South. If you are a pretty southern girl, you are the ideal candidate for Kappa Delta membership provided you meet their high standards in the areas of character, academics and leadership potential. In the 90s, KD became the first and only National Panhellenic Conference group to adopt the Girl Scouts as a national philanthropy. This philanthropy is perhaps the easiest to become adamant in your support, since so many girls were once girl scouts. Kappa Delta hosts a White Rose formal every spring. The freshmen girls wear long, white dresses and are presented to the entire chapter by their fathers. They are presented by walking down the main foyer stairs and accepting a white rose. This is a sacred tradition of the Epsilon chapter of Kappa Delta. One which is valued with such high esteem that all sororities are aware of it's significance. Delta Delta Delta
Delta Delta Delta, "Tri Delt", is famous for their many amazing chapters. The Tri Delt chapter at LSU is the stereotypical Tri Delt chapter: possibly the best. There are guys who believe that Tri Delt is home to the “hottest girls” on campus. Tri Delt’s reputation is one of acclaim and envy. There are more lower-tier girls who loathe Tri Delt than any other upper-tier chapter. Tri Delt and KD are often paired as the top houses on campus. There is much that sets the two apart, but they are the two most sought after sororities on campus, by guys and girls. Tri Delt is also known to have girls who love to party, which is certainly not a bad thing. An SEC school is in essence a party school. Tri Delt, unlike KD is notably diverse in membership. Tri Delt does not discriminate as to whether or not a PNM is from Baton Rouge or New York City. Tri Delt strives for diversity, and has fortified a reputation for just that. They got into a bit of trouble not too long ago, but they've recovered wholly and maintain their top tier status. Tri Delts are perhaps the preppiest, most intimidatingly confident girls on campus. They wear designer everything (obviously not to class, but instead when out). Tri Delt is also the most competitive chapter to rush. They cut more girls than any other chapter on campus. There are a number of chapters who may know that they’re uninterested in a PNM, but will not cut them until a later round, in order keep numbers up in all rounds. Tri Delt, however, does not do that. Tri Delt is not concerned with meeting quota if there aren’t enough quality girls to fill the positions. The same can be said for KD.
Chi Omega
Phi Mu
Phi Mu is without a doubt just shy of top tier status. What keeps Phi Mu from attaining top tier status is the intra-chapter division. There is a huge NOLA presence in Phi Mu. The girls who are featured as “mattering the most” are an inseparable trio, but seem to have little interest in expanding their immediate friend group. There is such animosity amongst the girls of Phi Mu, that there are separate facebook groups for the Fall 2012 pledge class. One is entitled “Not NOLA Phi Mu”. The division aside, Phi Mu is certainly an impressive chapter to pledge. Every fraternity values Phi Mu, and top tier girls are often times friends with Phi Mus. Phi Mu is also a very southern chapter, but have left their comfort zone as of late in taking a more diverse group of girls. Phi Mu placed first overall for highest GPA among PHC sororities at LSU. Last semester, 55 members of Phi Mu received GPAs of 4.0 and another 103 members made a 3.5-3.99 GPA. Phi Mu placed second at Songfest and raised a staggering $32,000 in their Spring 2013 “Man of the Year” philanthropy, and $45,000 combined for the entire year. Phi Mu is featured in the Lilly Pulitzer sorority collection. Phi Mu is definitely a great chapter filled with a number of top-notch girls. Delta Zeta
Delta Zeta, “DZ”, is the most unique upper-tier sorority. They have so many pretty girls that guys have argued DZ to be “the hottest sorority”. This website showcases just that, and since there are so many, it’s important to consider that in the ranking of that house. Delta Zeta attracts girls who partake in pageants, competitive dance and cheer. Delta Zeta’s philanthropy is the annual Miss LSU Pageant, in which every sorority participates. The victor of this pageant may participate in the official Miss Louisiana pageant. There are Delta Zetas who were once “Miss Teen Texas” or another state perhaps. They're that crowd of girls. DZs are also known for their girls’ tendency to party down. There are a number of DZs who may have had shifty reputations in high school, but were able to overcome that in time. Basically, be pretty, fun and interesting and Delta Zeta will likely show interest in you. It is undoubtedly essential that I address the fact that the previous runner of this site was a Delta Zeta. She was outed during Spring Break 2013 when she drunkenly admitted to the creation of this site. Little did she know, she was being recorded. In addition to her admittance of running the site, she also spoke ill of the African American race and declared her approval of Interfraternity hazing, even admitting to having assisted SAE in hazing their pledges in the fall of 2012. SAE was kicked off campus in the fall of 2012 for serious hazing that was sexual in nature. These videos went absolutely viral and ended up making headlines. Olivia’s story was featured on TigerTV, LSU’s broadcast journalism club. Delta Zeta immediately handled the situation by removing her from the sorority. They’ve all proclaimed their disapproval of the opinions of former Delta Zeta, Olivia Angelette. These videos can still be seen on BamaGreeksThatMatter.blogspot.com. Past the actions of one racist and disturbed girl, Delta Zeta is a great chapter at LSU. There should certainly be a concerted effort amongst DZ girls to dress a bit more conservatively, in order to overcome their national nickname of “Easy DZs”. Just as it is unfair to assume that EVERY Theta is a fat pig, it is equally unjust to assume that EVERY DZ is “easy”. Pi Beta Phi
Pi Beta Phi, “Pi Phi”, is a middle tier sorority with quite the untraditional reputation. These girls like to have fun. The saying "get high with Pi Phi" comes to mind. Pi Phi is the only sorority that has a notorious reputation for drug use. In my opinion, that is a rather garish reputation to sustain. It’s honestly true too. Obviously this doesn’t mean that EVERY Pi Phi is convoluted in drugs, but there are a lot who are. Fraternity guys may value this trait about Pi Phi, but other sororities do not. Pi Phi has never faced any sort of drug-related penalty, and for the sake of the girls in their sorority, that better not change. Pi Phi is less picky about looks than the upper-tier chapters. They are very serious about PNMs needing recommendation letters, and I find it odd for a sorority to focus on that so much more than the essentials. There are still lots of pretty girls in Pi Phi. Let me stress that, there are still a fair amount of pretty chicas in Pi Phi! They tend to care less whether or not a girl is from Baton Rouge or say, California. Last fall, a Pi Phi associate member’s negligence resulted in the social probation of the entire sorority. They were unable to have social events until April of 2013. For this reason, Pi Phi was unable to build relations with the fraternities in the way that all the other sororities were able to. Pi Phi’s philanthropic endeavor is to raise awareness of illiteracy. “Pies, Burgers, and Phries” is their annual fall fundraiser. Pi Phi is featured in the Lilly Pulitzer sorority collection. On Pi Phi’s LSU chapter website, they make it a point to state that Pi Phi legacies are not guaranteed a bid from the chapter. They also state that alumnae are allowed to submit recommendations for potential new members, but are not permitted to take part in the actual selection of members during recruitment. They also state that it is not the responsibility of the sorority to notify alumnae when a PNM that they endorsed is cut. These are very strange concepts to bring such attention to. Delta Gamma
Delta Gamma, “DG”, is a nationally large sorority. Their nickname at LSU is “Delta Grandmas” because many of them are either boring or unappealing, resembling bag ladies. There are some pretty DGs, and there was a time when was a lot better at LSU. DG is predominantly a southern chapter. I know for a fact that alumnae actively monitor recruitment. When the possibility of an African American joining DG became real, alumnae threatened to pull funding altogether. The alumnae should not be a reflection of the sorority members, but that was definitely noteworthy enough to mention. Some DGs like to go out a lot, but they do not hang out with upper-tier Greeks. DGs often hang out with fraternities such as FIJI, Sigma Nu, Phi Psi, Pike and Lambda Chi. There aren’t many strikingly pretty DGs, and there are surely more in the older grades. Guys enjoy DG’s “Paint Your Date” fall grub. They say that grub’s paint party theme is uniquely fun. The fall 2012 new member class was the largest in the history of the Gamma Zeta chapter of Delta Gamma at LSU. In the year 2008, the Gamma Zeta chapter of Delta Gamma at LSU was recognized as the “Most Outstanding DG Chapter” award. There are a number of notable DG alumnae. Delta Gamma is featured in both the Lilly Pulitzer and Vineyard Vines sorority collections. Delta Gamma is certainly a good chapter at LSU. The biggest piece of advice that I have for LSU’s Delta Gamma is to practice a bit more of exclusive selectivity of PNMs. Do not let alumnae pressure force you into giving bids to legacies. Instead of trying to grow in numbers to report to nationals, focus more on weeding out the quality girls. DG is historically relevant at LSU, but its current reputation is one of dull influence. A chapter can be the most nationally revered chapter by their nationals, and at the same time have a meager standing amongst the rest of LSU Greek Life. Kappa Kappa Gamma
Kappa Kappa Gamma, “Kappa”, is a national powerhouse sorority. With campuses across the nation with very prominent chapters, Kappa should in theory be top tier at such a dynamically Greek school such as LSU. At one point in time, Kappa was a top runner, right alongside Phi Mu, Chi O and Tri Delt. That was long ago, since then Kappa has fully slipped. What Kappa fails to grasp is the fact that they take in so much driftwood, that those girls have taken over the majority of the chapter. Kappa has a large NOLA following, and those are the girls who make up the lingering quality in the sorority. NOLA girls have expressed interest more so in Phi Mu, this year, than Kappa. A sorority is not able to withstand the troops of trolls that they bid in order to fill their quota. At what cost does a sorority fill their quota? At the expense of their merit. Kappa’s reputation is consistently common across the row. They’re the “party girls”, who tend to get a tad out of hand. Many Kappas serve as fraternity groupies, which is certainly not an accomplishment. A fraternity groupie is liked amongst the guys, but she is undeniably not respected. The discouraging fact of the matter is that there are still plenty of pretty Kappas. These are the girls who slipped through the cracks, “crack babies”. Crack babies are generally the unfit girls who somehow found their way in a sorority that they do not deserve. In Kappa’s case, the crack babies are the quality girls who were unluckily fooled during rush. The senior girls are indeed the only remaining class of Kappas who reign from Kappa’s glory days. This is very apparent to the older girls, and such a realization has formed a rift between the classes. Kappa is an extremely involved chapter on campus, and they still manage to build relations with upper-tier fraternities on the basis that they are such “wild childs”. Until Kappa displays a bit more selectness in their recruitment periods, they will be unable to return to their former glory. Kappa is featured in both the Lilly Pulitzer and Vineyard Vines sorority collections. Kappa hasn’t won an award from Kappa nationals since 2010, the Risk Management Award, and before that in 2008, the Standards Honorable Mention Award. Zeta Tau Alpha
Zeta Tau Alpha, “Zeta”, is the most curious sorority to evaluate. Let me begin by saying that Zeta is the only sorority at LSU that is not featured in the Lilly Pulitzer sorority collection, which is why I could not create the same banner for them as I did all the others. Zeta is certainly bottom tier at LSU, but the odd thing is that they have a decent amount of pretty girls. That’s why some may harbor reluctance in agreeing with Zeta’s bottom tier ranking. There are also a number of uninviting Zetas who are much more ideal for a bottom tier sorority. Moreover, the facts speak for themselves. A lot of Zetas were very unlucky during rush. Many of them may have had bad reputations prior to rush, and because of that they performed poorly during recruitment getting cut everywhere except for Zeta. Zeta is not ranked higher for a number of reasons. So many of their members enjoy creating drama, stirring up fights and drama amongst their friend groups. They allow themselves to be mistreated and disrespected by guys. Some of them value the fact that they “hook up” with so many guys within the same fraternity. A lot of them are pathological liars and sloppy drunks. These are all tacky, inappropriate, improper mannerisms for a sorority girl to occupy. I would hazard to guess that Zeta is unaware of just how embarrassing their reputation is. Zeta’s annual philanthropy is Pinktoberfest, a fundraiser held in October, Breast Cancer Awareness month. Pinktoberfest raises awareness and education of Breast Cancer. The girls of Zeta partake in a number of games in which they consume Yoplait yogurt, and collect the pink lids. Games such as “Yogurt Pong”, “Yogurt Flip Cup” and the self-proclaimed on Zeta’s website “notorious yogurt eating contest”, much like a hot dog eating contest. Zeta placed first in stepshow, and performed during the halftime of an LSU basketball game. There were also Zeta dancers who managed to score a role in the Superbowl halftime show in New Orleans at the Superdome featuring Beyoncé. In the past two years, the Delta Kappa chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha at LSU has received a number of awards. Click here to view the many accomplishments of Zeta. Zeta is the only sorority at LSU not featured in the Lilly Pulitzer sorority collection, but they are featured in the Vineyard Vines sorority collection. Alpha Phi
On June 25, 2012, the Panhellenic Council of LSU voted to invite Alpha Phi International Sorority to join the Panhellenic Community in the fall of 2013. On June 28, 2012, Alpha Phi announced at their convention in Phoenix, AZ that they accepted the Panhellenic Council’s invitation. The Panhellenic community of LSU has been in the extension process for the past 10 months, paving the way for Alpha Phi’s return to the LSU community. Alpha Phi will be participating in formal recruitment in the fall of 2013. Shortly after recruitment, Alpha Phi will commence their week of chapter colonization. The goal is that Alpha Phi will recruit to average chapter size, which is 263 members. I’ve personally skimmed through pictures of the current Alpha Phi members, and I must say that I am thoroughly impressed. There are actually a lot of pretty girls. Alpha Phi is a crucial part of the continuation and expansion of LSU Greek Life. Joining Alpha Phi may be in your best interest! Alpha is ranked bottom tier on my tier chart, but that is based purely on the fact that they are brand new! If future members are anywhere near the quality of the current members, I would say that Alpha Phi has serious potential to move well up in the tier chart very soon. If you were to join Alpha Phi this fall, you would be a part of making LSU Greek history. Your name will be chronicled as the re-founding sisters of Alpha Phi at LSU! Alpha Phi has been promoted by every sorority, and there is so much PHC love for them. Also, fraternities will make it top priority to ensure that Alpha Phi is on their social calendars this coming school year. Everyone wants to play with the new shiny toys!
